Types of Gaskets and Materials

Aflas Gaskets

There are plenty of new types of gaskets that keep coming in and the ones that are regularly used in the industry. They vary in size, shape and the material used to build them. It will be picked out based on the industrial application and the type of liquid or gas that will be transferred through it.

Types of Gaskets Used For Industrial Purposes

There are wide variety of gaskets available in the market which varies based on the industrial purpose that they are designed for. They are important components which are used with a seal to ensure that the transferred fuel goes through without any leaks or contamination. Gaskets are compressible material which are normally used as a joint component between two different motionless members during this transfer.

Among them, Aflas gaskets, Ameri-lon gaskets, Armstrong gaskets and API RTJ gaskets are some of the known names within the industry. The products are made using different raw materials including the likes of elastometric, fibrous, metallic among other variants. These are usually the four common materials used in the manufacturing the gaskets but sometimes they can be combined together to achieve desired results.

There are multiple brands of gaskets available in the market. Each one of them caters to the specific industry needs and uses raw materials as per the required standards. They are ASP Style Metallic gaskets, Buna gaskets, Corrugated metal gaskets, double jacketed metal gaskets, EPDM gaskets and EPTFE gaskets. Among the types available, the elastometric is considered as an entry level material used in sheet sealing related products.

The compositions will be varied based on the specific instructions given by the industry which purchases it. The products will be delivered in specific commercial quality and specification grade. Most popular brands in the industry are Fish Paper Gaskets, Flange gaskets, flexible graphite gaskets, grafoil gaskets, heat exchanger gaskets, JM clipper gaskets and the materials used for metal gaskets will be altered as the buyer specifies.

The second level of the product is made using fibrous materials which are well known for its level of strength and stability. They are used with sealing flanges and can be combined with other seals based on the liquid transferred. Other materials that fall within the category are flexible graphite, mica gaskets, cork and PTFE.

They play an integral role in creating metal jacketed gaskets, metal gaskets, neoprene gaskets, nitrile gaskets, non-asbestos gaskets and PTFE gaskets. The categories or types of gaskets can be classified based on the material used which will vary between soft or non-metallic, semi-metallic and metallic ones. The mechanical build characteristic of the product as well as its overall performance capability will drastically vary based on the material as well the company which manufactures it.

They are primarily used with seals and can be separated into four different parts. There will be various fillers and fibers associated with it. For medium temperature applications, the fibrous variant gaskets will be used. Other types may also include rubber gaskets, silicone gaskets, spiral wound gaskets, urethane gaskets and Viton gaskets. Metallica gaskets are usually the fourth model available which will be made and used with carbon, titanium, steel or alloys. They can be purchased in complete sheet form or can be cut into specific sizes based on order. The industrial supplier will take care of the product designing and it should aptly be specified by the buyer before they officially place the order.
